Maybelline Newyork Millennial Fashion Show ’14 – The Most Important Fashion Event in Years

Millennial Fashion show is just another feather in Fashion Pakistan council’s hat that they can boast and be proud of for ever! After introducing Fashion weeks to this country, that completely changed the fashion scenario in Pakistan, Maybelline Newyork Millennial Fashion Show ’14 aka #MNMF14 is also very much a game changer.

Scheduled to take place last year as GenEX (as was announced in FPC’s press conference), the event finally happened with a new name. MNMF showcased the new talent from not just AIFD and IVS but also PIFD and other designers, who are good at their work and needed a stronger more visible platform. Its’ a great thing that the newbies finally have their own show, supported by one strong fashion council and one can only wish now that it becomes a regular feature.

So let’s get talking about the 1st MNMF.

Location: Indus Valley School. Like wow! The fashionable feel that IVS brought to the event, I am sorry PC’s , Marriots, Expo’s and Faletti’s can’t bring (not many options we have). Totally loved the show happening in such a cool place.

Time: It started on time and ended on time. can you believe it ?

Audience: Absolutely right amount of people. Who wants irrelevant 800/900 people on both sides of the runway.

Sponsor: American brand Maybelline for the first time sponsored a big fashion event in Pakistan. Great! But I guess that they got so excited that there was so much Maybelline happening. I mean the designers introduction were 20 seconds shorter than Raana Khan telling us about the make up on that huge screen on the ramp. Oh and we loved the makeup and the commercials played which were sexy and not bollywood.

PR Latitude: So then, Latitude is the 5th PR agency handling a Fashion Pakistan council’s event and must say job well done. But the real test will be when its going to be #FPWAW14. Bigger audience, more designers, more tantrums and just way much more of everything. Umairica wishes them the best.

The Choreographer Fayezah Ansari: She is a heroine! I mean this girl has been through so much and look at her now ! One of the best models out there, will surely have others making a run for their money with her choreography skills. She actually did a FLAWLESS job with her not so simple kept choreography! Note: many new models, which makes things definitely not easier.

The Designers of the Day:

I am only sharing the pictures of the designs I liked,  and if you want to figure out who was better and who wasn’t , do a picture count 😀

1. ” Royal Soccer” by Aalish Mansoor – AIFD grad.

Jackets particularly were fantastic and prints were also lovely. Aalish knows his game and surely going to make it big.

2. “Vanishing Culture by Nitasha Yaqub – PIFD grad.

Vanishing culture by Nitasha presented a vintage’y’ but a very spring collection. A little safe but sophisticated and pretty overall.

3. “Modern Denimology” by Sameer Sain

I loved the shoes. The Jumpsuit that Abrar wore looked great till that jute butt patch, which sadly was disturbing. The White jacket that Tabish Oza wore was perfect.

4. “Scarlet Night” by Abel Emanuel – AIFD grad.

Sadly, not much to like from Scarlet’s night, even Maybelline’s cosmetics use was unimpressive in this show.

5. “Flight of Birds” by Madiha Raza – IVS grad.

It was Madiha raza’s night. Details to die for and not just flying but exotic birds all the way.

So this is now what is going to happen: We voted for our best designer from the night and the winner ( hands down Madiha) will get another massive opportunity to showcase his or her collection at the big one: FPW spring / summer  2015. Please note, all these designers had to pay was nothing and nor the winner will be charged any fee for FPW ! Salute FPC !

  1. I think what FPC did with supporting the young ones is brilliant. And free of charge! Plus, omg! Fayezah killed it!
